Go the distance with these #SupaSassy money-saving tips
There's a good chance that with the recent price hikes on all fronts, you reach the end of your money before you reach the end of the month. The struggle is real. And with more petrol price hikes on the horizon, what's a smart girl to do?
With some forethought, minor adjustments to your driving, and the latest innovations in tyre technology, you can get your tank of fuel to go that much further. Now who's isn’t keen for that?
How to squeeze more rands from your tank:
1. Drive like Miss Daisy
Harsh, stop-start driving guzzles fuel, so go a bit easier on your accelerator between traffic lights and notice the difference. Aim to keep a constant speed, it will be so much better for your car too.
2. Ditch the need for speed
The faster you drive, the more fuel you consume. Your car uses up to 25% more fuel at 110km/h than it would cruising at 90km/h.
3. Gear up for glory
Drive with the highest gear possible without straining your engine.
4. Switch it on and off again
Avoid unnecessary idling, this literally gets you nowhere and wastes a whole lot of fuel. So if you know you’re going to be stationery for more than a minute or two, turn off the engine instead of keeping it running.
5. Roll it up
Open windows at high speeds cause an exceptional amount of drag. This places more strain on your engine and in turn uses more fuel to keep it turning at a constant speed.
6. Ace your A/C
Use your air conditioner only when you really need to as these can use up 10% more fuel. That said, your air con is more fuel efficient than rolling down your window when driving over 80km/h.
7. Check your charge
Charging your mobile devices in your car actually increase your fuel consumption. Instead, charge your cell phone up ahead of time when at work or at home.
8. Lose the weight
Remove unnecessary items from your car. The more you load your car with stuff, the more fuel you’ll consume.
9. Cope better with Ecopia
By simply fitting your car with Bridgestone Ecopia tyres, you could save hundreds or even thousands of rands per year in fuel. The reduced rolling resistance not only reduces your carbon footprint, but they also improve your car's fuel efficiency.
